Arizona: Humphreys Peak

Elevation: 12,633

Hike Time: Around 5 hours

Getting There: Humphreys Peak, an old volcano, is just north of Flagstaff among the San Fransisco Peaks. You can’t miss the gigantic peaks protruding up out of the surrounding landscape. From highway 180 going north towards the Grand Canyon out of Flagstaff go right after about 7 miles onto Snow Bowl Road and take the road up past the parking and onto a windy mountain road to a parking lot. There the trail head starts. From there just stick to the trail as it winds through the dense forest floor to old lava rock on the exposed summit.

Start of the Trail passing beneath the ski lift.

From the summit looking north. From here you can just make out the north rim of the Grand Canyon.
